Lake House is a highly personal exploration of form, function, and the beauty of unconventional geometry. John and Lorraine approached RDS to transform a restrictive late-90s layout into a bespoke kitchen renovation that honours the home’s existing architecture while meeting the rigorous demands of a professional culinary background. As an ex-chef, Lorraine required a workspace that could sustain large-scale entertaining without sacrificing the soul and warmth of a family home.
The design process was a collaborative journey that pushed beyond the norm, leaning into the clients’ desire for experimental forms and tactile depth. Centred around a commanding, sculptural island that invites fluid movement, the layout was entirely re-imagined to dissolve boundaries and foster connection.
We arrived at a material composition that is truly singular: the grounding, rich tones of walnut paired with the dramatic, translucent allure of Patagonia stone. Hand-finished sand-cast bronze accents provide a sharp, artisanal edge, while the installation of creamy cork flooring ensures a soft comfort underfoot. Every surface is a deliberate sensory experience, selected for how it will live and age alongside the daily rituals it supports.
